HOS – January Reflections & Golden Tickets

When I first started working at Shoreline Christian years and years ago, part of my job was being the Elementary Librarian. I noticed that there were a number of books that hadn’t been checked out in quite awhile. I decided to hide some golden tickets in those books and tell the students that if they found a book with a golden ticket that they could turn in the ticket for a small prize. Another ticket was found just last week! Not sure how many are left out there, but it’s always a fun surprise when they turn up.

The weather this morning did not remind me of a golden ticket. It was icy, cold, dark, and dreary. It would be easy to be grumpy today. But if you look really carefully at today you still can find a golden ticket. Kids getting out of cars still greeted us with a good morning. Parents were thankful to be dropping off students after a long weekend at home. Staff started the day all together with devotions led by our own Anthony Jenkins. Anthony reminded us of the many things we have to be thankful for and opened our day in prayer. That prayer, that time of staff devotions, those good mornings from students were actually golden tickets. The Lord hides golden tickets for us to find all through our day. We just have to lift our heads, open our eyes and we’ll see them.

As we enter the second half of this school year, we have much to be thankful for and much to look forward to. Last week we announced that we will be offering preschool next school year. We are also starting to work on plans for a school auction in the fall. Secondary students are headed into Wintermission – an opportunity to take several classes that aren’t usually on their schedule – cooking, storytelling, bowling, learn about law, career exploration. Elementary students are keeping a close eye on the fish tank in their hallway with the salmon eggs. Our 5th graders are spending time with our 1st graders to help with their animal research. See the golden tickets?

Thank you for blessing us with your children. We know you have a choice as to where you send your child to school. Thank you for choosing Shoreline Christian.

Keep looking for the golden tickets.
