Frequently Asked Questions

What is the society?

Shoreline Christian School is owned and governed by the Christian Education Society of Seattle, or Society for short. Every parent is encouraged to join the Society. Serving in the Society is a meaningful way to strengthen SCS for your own children and for future generations.

From Shoreline Christian School’s founding in 1952, the Society has guided the vision and mission of the school. As laid out in the Articles of Incorporation, the Society is responsible for approving the annual budget, electing the Board of Directors, and voting on other major decisions that shape the present and future of SCS. The Board, made up of four or more Society members, does the detailed work of shaping policies that support Shoreline Christian School’s vision. Through SCS’s Head of School they ensure that the school’s day to day plans and activities fulfill the school’s purpose and mission.

Shoreline Christian School's Governance Structure Diagram

Who makes up the Society?

Parents and other community members who believe in SCS’s mission and are committed to supporting the school. Membership in the Society is open to all school supporters and parents who are in harmony with the biblical basis of SCS and affirm the Statement of Belief and Educational Philosophy and who support SCS by either sending their children to the school or by volunteering for or donating to the school.

How do I join the Society?

Please review the information on this webpage and email the Board (Board@shorelinechristian.org) and make the below commitment. At the next Society meeting, current members will vote to approve new Society members.

Society members make this commitment:

I am in harmony with the biblical basis of Shoreline Christian School and affirm SCS’s guiding principles and the Statement of Belief and Educational Philosophy of Shoreline Christian School. As a Society member I will participate in the activities of Shoreline Christian School.

Why is the school governed by a Society?

SCS’s leadership structure is a direct reflection of the school’s philosophy of Christian education. We believe that God entrusts children to their parents to raise them to know and glorify Him. The school exists to serve parents in this high calling, continuing the spiritual formation, character development, and shaping of gifts and talents that starts in the home.

Children thrive when the family, school, and church partner together, and the school’s governance model reflects this understanding. Having a society of parents, grandparents, and community members who are deeply committed to Christian education keeps the stewardship of the school in the hands of those it exists to serve.

What is a Society Meeting?

Society meetings are open to the whole Shoreline Christian School community and we encourage every parent to attend. They take place in the fall, winter, and spring in the evening on campus and over zoom.  This is where all community members and Society members can hear updates about the school’s health and mission and give guiding input to aspects such as finance, curriculum, programs, and building and grounds. These meetings are also where we conduct official Society business such as electing new Board members and voting on the budget.

What are the benefits to being a Society member?

Attending SCS’s Society meetings is the best way to be informed about the inner workings of the school. These meetings are also a great way to connect with parents, teachers, and staff beyond your own students’ classes. As a Society member, you have a voice in important decisions that sustain and shape SCS; and you have a vote. Most importantly, society members make a meaningful contribution to SCS for their own children and future generations.

My name is Chris, and I am proud to be a Shoreline Christian parent. I have two daughters attending SCS and three boys who will be attending when they are old enough for preschool. My wife Briana (Bauman, SCS alumna) and I reside in Shoreline within walking distance of the school. I was born and raised in California and attended Christian school from kindergarten through high school. I have a bachelors and masters in industrial engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and an MBA from the University of Washington. I work as an engineering manager in Everett.

I joined the Shoreline Christian Board of Directors in early 2021 to help ensure that SCS continues to be a blessing to students, staff, and families for decades to come. I am excited to be a part of this community and am excited for the future of the school.

My husband, Leland, and I have 3 boys currently at SCS – Ben (12), Peter (11) and Matthew (8).  After struggling at our previous school (as everyone did) through the Spring of 2020, we started searching for an in-person option. We knew several families at  SCS that really loved it, and the more we learned about the school’s approach to learning, the community, and the opportunities our kids could have through SCS, the more certain we became about making the transition. We have never looked back. All three of our kids have flourished in their own unique ways —ways in which we did not even know they were lacking before—and we have come to love the friendships we and the kids have made.

I especially treasure that our kids have a place to learn about God from people who love Him and to ask their honest questions in a place that encourages curiosity with grace and eagerness. Leland and I both grew up in public schools but met at Wheaton College, a Christian college in Illinois, that valued integrating faith and learning. We started our family back in Maryland, where I grew up, and then transplanted to Seattle in 2012 when Leland accepted a faculty position teaching philosophy at Seattle Pacific University. Over the past 10 years, I have learned the  value of friends who are like family, who will pray with and for our kids.

My professional background is in Sociology and Econometrics. I earned a master’s and a PhD in Public Policy from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and now work full-time from home for Abt Associates, a firm that evaluates the implementation and effectiveness of federal social programs. I have experience directing large projects, analyzing large datasets, finding  patterns, and looking at problems from multiple perspectives.

Navigating an education that is integrated with faith can sometimes be fraught these days, but I see SCS doing it faithfully and humbly. I look forward to opportunities to serve this community because of how much it has meant to our family and because of the joy that comes from joining with what God is already doing in and through the school.

My name is Colin Adams. My wife, Alek, and I have been married for 13 years and have 4 children. Hannah is our oldest in 5th grade. Our three youngest are all boys Micah 2nd grade, Issac preschool, and Lucas is only 8 months old. I graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Business with an Accounting focus. In 2020 I received my Masters in Business Administration from Liberty University. Upon graduating from UW I joined Youth With a Mission and completed a 6 month discipleship training school and outreach. This involved 3 months of discipleship classes and 3 months of outreach at cities across the United Kingdom and 2 months in South Africa. After returning to the Seattle area in 2010 I got a job working for the owners of Pier 57 in Seattle. I have worked doing the accounting and finances for the businesses there, such as the Seattle Great Wheel and the Crab Pot Restaurant among others, ever since.

My wife and I both grew up in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park, both going to school down the road at Shorecrest High School. Be it at different times, only to meet later in life. We love the Pacific Northwest and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. We now live in Edmonds, near the border of Shoreline. We care about our community and are committed to fighting to save the Seattle area from what is going on around us. We believe that for us, God has called our family to be a light in the darkness and provide a beacon of hope to the community. I would be honored to serve on the board at Shoreline Christian School to help foster a place to develop strong, God loving members of society and prepare them for their futures.

My wife Elizabeth and I live in the Wedgwood neighborhood of Seattle with our kids Charles (9th grade), Tess (7th grade), and Lucy (4th grade), who are all in their second year at SCS. They previously attended Seattle Public Schools. We were drawn to SCS’ strong Christ-centered learning, high quality of education with an ability to differentiate learning, and the strong and welcoming community between and among the educators and parents. I look forward to maintaining and growing these attributes as a board member. I grew up in a Christian home in Vancouver, BC and came to my own faith in Jesus while in high school there. I attended a mix of public and private schools in several cities in Canada as well as an international school in Hong Kong for a couple years! My wife grew up attending a Christian school that her dad was principal of (he is now a professor of education at Calvin College). Our family has attended Trinity Church Seattle for the last 8 years, where I have led elementary Sunday School classes for the last few years.

Professionally, I am Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Signify Health, which is owned by CVS, and have previously worked at startups and at Microsoft for a number of years. I have many years of experience as a business and technology manager and have several patents in my name. I studied Computer Science at the University of British Columbia. This will be my first board position.

My wife Emily and I have three daughters at SCS, two in ninth grade and one in second. I am the pastor of a local Anglican Church, Holy Trinity Edmonds, and have spent almost all of my life living in the Edmonds area. I received my BA in Ministry Leadership from Northwest University and a Master of Arts in Leadership, Theology, and Society from Regent College. I have worked in management for the Safeway Corporation, started and ran my own Home Services company, and worked in pastoral ministry for the past 13 years.

I believe that SCS is a special place. From the moment we toured the school, I knew that I wanted our children to be here. I am especially impressed with the staff, how they relate to each other and to the students. I believe that healthy Christian organizations have a great opportunity to witness to the kingdom of God in how they operate, how they treat their employees, and how they care for each person that participates with them. Much of my study has been focused around organizational health and actively creating healthy cultures in churches and other organizations. I am a creative thinker and problem solver, an excellent communicator, and an activator who enjoys working in teams.

My name is Jordan DeKoekkoek and I have three daughters at SCS.  My wife Stacy and I are both SCS graduates, as was my father so my girls have the fun distinction of being 3rd generation students.  In our free time our family enjoys camping, road trips, and playing with our multitude of pets: 2 dogs, 3 cats, 1 snake, 2 fish, and more bunnies than I can count.  I have lived in the North King County/South Snohomish County area my entire life outside of college, where I received a BA in Mathematics from Western Washington University (Bellingham).

I have spent the last 20+ years working for a small insurance company, my current role being their Director of Data Analytics where I manage a small group of actuaries and analysts. I enjoy working with others, solving problems, and planning out what needs to be done now to set up future success.  Having seen God’s love in practice through SCS, both as a student and now as a parent, it has always been a community I’ve wanted my family to be a part of.   I am looking forward to this new opportunity to be of service to SCS and to His Kingdom.

My name is Sarah Moore, and I’ve been married to my husband, Josh, for 23 years. Together, we have four children. Lexi, our eldest at 32, whom we adopted at the age of 17, is married to Taco, and they have an adorable son named Caspian, who has fully embraced being 2. Alison, who is 18, is currently at Boise State University pursuing a degree in nursing. Isaac, aged 17, is a senior at Bishop Blanchet High School, where his passions lie in football and track. Our youngest, Julianna (JJ), is 14 and embarking on her first year of high school at Shoreline Christian School.

We have resided in various locations of the Lynnwood area for the past 24 years. Our family has been part of an Anglican church community at Holy Trinity Edmonds (HTE) for 8 years, where we have been actively involved. HTE has played an integral role in our family’s journey, providing a supportive community for each member. It’s this same sense of community that led us to choose Shoreline Christian for JJ’s education.

With a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington, I enjoyed a brief stint in the industry before dedicating myself to our family in 2005 and homeschooling over the past 17 years. I have witnessed firsthand how children can learn differently, the immense effort required to create a conducive learning environment, and the profound impact that decision-makers have on shaping an institution’s educational practices. I am excited for the opportunity to serve on Shoreline Christian School’s board, embarking in a new facet of education, offering my support to educators, and contributing to their success.

My name is Roma Reyes-Cambronero, and my husband is Obet Cambronero. We are blessed with one son who is currently in 3rd grade at Shoreline Christian School. Although we met in Seattle, Obet and I were both born in Manila, Philippines. At very young ages our families immigrated to the United States. We consider ourselves as true Washingtonians as we both completed elementary, high school, and college in Seattle. I obtained my Doctorate’s degree in Advanced Nursing Practice from the University of Washington and am currently practicing at UW Medicine’s Post-Acute Care Services. In addition, I teach in the capacity of preceptor for advance nurse practice students for UW and Seattle University Schools of Nursing. Most recently I was part of a healthcare team that worked with local nursing homes and the Department of Health in navigating care during the recent pandemic.

We currently reside in Everett and are members at New Life Church. Prior to moving to Everett, we served in a small church in Seatac, the Filipino Christian Church. I served as part of the leadership team and treasurer. As parents, what is most important is for our son to grow knowing God’s love. SCS has been a major partner in instilling biblical foundations in our son. SCS supports his academic growth and provides a sense of belonging where he can flourish as God intends him to be.

What I hope to offer the board is a perspective through a lens of someone of my background and experience. I bring my skills as problem solver, collaborator, communicator and educator. I I am pleased to serve in whatever capacity is needed.
