HOS – Keep Your Eyes Open

On Wednesday night, SCS Charger fans had the joy of sitting through three basketball games in our gym- Middle School Boys, Varsity Girls, and Varsity Boys. There’s always so much to see at a basketball game- the big things and the little things. Here are some of the things I saw this Wednesday;

• The entire student section cheering on Asher, our esteemed towel boy, while he wiped up a wet spot on the gym floor.

• Matias making the final winning shot at the buzzer to bring the Middle School boys to victory.

• Danny sinking basket after basket.

• The swoosh of the three pointers.

• Our new Middle School basketball coach, Josh, getting his first win.

• Our students lining up with arms stretched overhead to make a tunnel for our players to run through while they came onto the court.

• The elementary boys waving their homemade signs and chanting for the SCS players.

• The time the refs didn’t hear our coach yell for a time out.

• Jaden swerving in and out through the players, landing yet another basket.

• Senior Night – Our senior players walking on the court with their families, sharing about their favorite memories of playing bball at SCS and introducing a favorite teacher and talking about the impact they had on their lives.

• Our girls Varsity – all 7 of them – playing against a very full bench of opposing players and never giving up, not once.

• The fierce determination of Alex, Lexi, Sophia, Lily, Sadie, Irene, Laurel and Cadence.

• The dad who helped his three year old make a basket during the pop shoot at half time.

• Our varsity boys team cheering madly for our middle school boys team.

• The gym full of screaming fans- on both sides of the court.

• Alumni who had come back to relive their old glory days, see friends, and cheer on the Chargers!

• Parents and grandparents in the stands cheering their athletes on.

• The agony of going into overtime.

• The heart pounding thrill of an extremely close game which ended in victory.

So many times during the games I wanted to close my eyes because I was afraid they would lose the ball, someone would foul out, or the ref would make a bad call. But I kept telling myself, “Keep your eyes open. You don’t want to miss a thing. Not a thing”.

Isn’t that always true? There are times in life when things get a bit scary and you’re anxious, or nervous, or just so very excited that you just want to close your eyes. But in these times, I encourage you to keep your eyes open- you don’t want to miss a thing!

Things can get a bit intense and challenging at Shoreline Christian and I can admit to moments of feeling anxious and uncertain, but I know that I don’t want to miss a thing. This is God’s school. He’s got us firmly in the palm of His hand and I don’t want to miss a single thing that He’s doing in this place.

Keep your eyes open and see what God will do.
