My husband, Leland, and I have 3 boys currently at SCS – Ben (12), Peter (11) and Matthew (8).  After struggling at our previous school (as everyone did) through the Spring of 2020, we started searching for an in-person option. We knew several families at  SCS that really loved it, and the more we learned about the school’s approach to learning, the community, and the opportunities our kids could have through SCS, the more certain we became about making the transition. We have never looked back. All three of our kids have flourished in their own unique ways —ways in which we did not even know they were lacking before—and we have come to love the friendships we and the kids have made.

I especially treasure that our kids have a place to learn about God from people who love Him and to ask their honest questions in a place that encourages curiosity with grace and eagerness. Leland and I both grew up in public schools but met at Wheaton College, a Christian college in Illinois, that valued integrating faith and learning. We started our family back in Maryland, where I grew up, and then transplanted to Seattle in 2012 when Leland accepted a faculty position teaching philosophy at Seattle Pacific University. Over the past 10 years, I have learned the  value of friends who are like family, who will pray with and for our kids.

My professional background is in Sociology and Econometrics. I earned a master’s and a PhD in Public Policy from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and now work full-time from home for Abt Associates, a firm that evaluates the implementation and effectiveness of federal social programs. I have experience directing large projects, analyzing large datasets, finding  patterns, and looking at problems from multiple perspectives.

Navigating an education that is integrated with faith can sometimes be fraught these days, but I see SCS doing it faithfully and humbly. I look forward to opportunities to serve this community because of how much it has meant to our family and because of the joy that comes from joining with what God is already doing in and through the school.
