Congratulations to Mandy Faber, senior, for her first place and Irene Choi, junior, for her second place at the 7th Congressional District Art Show on Saturday, April 24th. Mandy's mixed media titled Pieces of Gertie reflected her search for information about her family in the past and focused on her grandmother when she was a nineteen year old. Irene's piece titled, Time to Dance, was a mixed media rich in contrasts much like the contrasts seen in Ecclesiastes 3, our school theme this year. Nine other students competed with students from Garfield and Roosevelt high schools. Mandy and Irene were recognized as the top two of the three awards. May God be honored in the use of these unique gifts. Mandy and her father will be traveling to Washington, DC, as the first place winner, courtesy of airline tickets from Southwest Airlines to attend and be honored at the national reception for all of the district award winners on June 17th. Her painting, Pieces of Gertie, will be on display for a year in Washingon, DC.

With qualifying Selection Index scores, she became one of the 50,000 highest-scoring participants of over 1.5 million program entrants. During this coming September, 16,000 of these students will be named National Merit Semifinalists. The other 34,000 high scorers will be commended for their performance on the PSAT/NMSQT, but will not continue in the Merit Scholarship competition.
