The following blog post was originally a devotional presentation by Mr. Adam Haulter at the Senior Breakfast the morning of graduation.
“Let your light shine” is the theme for your senior year. It’s easy for me to be cynical about that theme from the get-go--Another great thing to sing about and paint pictures of in the elementary. How do I know what that even means as we see light being blotted out in so many corners of our human experience? There are refugees, and there are hungry people, and there are mass shootings, and there are viral outbreaks, and on and on. When I hear or read about these happenings I feel overwhelmed. What difference do I make?

I met Tanita Horton at church several months ago. She had prayed for the Lord to send people to enrich the lives of "her kids”, as she is the office administrator at Campbell Hill Elementary School in Skyway. I approached her and told her that perhaps I could bring 8 students in my advisor group to do some art workshops with several of her classes, much like we had done for Service Days several years ago at Lockwood Elementary in Kenmore, which also had no art program.
For four weeks in April Mr. B held his PE classes outdoors. No, it’s not part of a new outdoor curriculum. Actually, it was because we were given an opportunity to completely refurbish the gym floor. Since the gym was built back in the late ‘70s, the gym has been closed for a week once or twice a year for a gentle refinish. This year, thanks to a generous donation, we were able to accomplish a complete overhaul.
