I got up early to watch the sunrise over the water. It was pitch black when I started my hike. My way was only illuminated by the focused beam of a few street lights and the occasional car. I got a cup of coffee from the local coffee shop, found a deserted chair on the beach, and waited. Over the next hour, the colors in the few clouds changed from orange to bright yellow. The mountains surrounding me came into clearer definition. The lights on the few homes in the area faded, and the theater stage was set for the play that was going to be my day.
Prior to interviewing Mrs. Tiffany Davis, our new sixth grade teacher, I asked her to provide me with a portfolio of her some of her work. On the cover of her notebook was the following quote from C.S. Lewis:
“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”
The quote was not lost on me this morning. It also reminded me why Christian education is so important. God is not hidden from us. We see him in the beauty of the sunrise and the elegance of the creation He reveals. Christian Education helps us to understand what we are seeing and how it can be used in response to the Lord we serve. Today is a great day to worship and to revel in what God has created for us to see Him.
