Ashlyn Vander Wel: Dedication and Hard Work

Ashlyn Vander Wel has been chosen as the Student of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2013-2014 by the faculty of Shoreline Christian School. The emphasis 3rd quarter was on dedication and hard work. Ashlyn is characterized by the faculty as someone who “has a lot of natural abilities, but has certainly never been a slacker. She is dedicated to the process of learning and always works hard. Every assignment is well done and she seems to genuinely enjoy learning new things. Ashlyn is efficient and focused.”

Her advice to underclassmen is to learn to work efficiently, do or find something outside of school that you love, and know that sleep is sometimes the best test preparation.

Ashlyn’s favorite Bible verse is Hebrews 13: 5b-6: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you … The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.” These verses have been comforting to her in many situations and are a truth she holds tightest to.

Ashlyn has been involved in both choir and Shiloh, both singing and accompanying for 4 years. She has also been part of the National Honor Society for the past three years. In her spare time she teaches piano.

Some of Ashlyn’s favorite memories are with her classmates. Anytime the girls in her class are together, no matter what they are doing, they are going to have a good time.

Ashlyn has begun to volunteer at Swedish Hospital/Edmonds. Next year Ashlyn plans to get into Biola University’s clinical nursing program, earn her BSN and then her Masters. She would like to become a head nurse and/or a nursing professor.

Ashlyn is the daughter of Theo and Linda Vander Wel of Kenmore.
