Alice Hanh - Events Coordinator
My name is Alice Hanh, and I am so pleased to be here! While receiving my bachelor’s in journalism at UW Seattle, I was a tutor for many years teaching ELL students English. Having my own small business working in education sparked my interest for teaching and community. I have had experience in student teaching 3rd grade, being an executive assistant for a tutoring company and online retail store, to management roles, such as operations manager and camp director. My favorite job so far has been working as the Camp Director at Run To Win Outreach, a nonprofit ministry serving our youth through sports. Currently, I am also a small business owner as a wedding and special events planner. I believe that God gives us each special gifts and abilities that should be used to give back to those around us to honor, love and build others up. It is such an honor to be able to help others and see the joy in people’s faces as they gather together and enjoy community! I cannot wait to learn about the Shoreline Christian School culture and community, and help us grow as the part-time Events Coordinator! I am in this with you!
Scott Zinn- Marketing and Communications
When human beings connect with an idea, a created work, or with another person, amazing things happen. My great passion is helping people understand and connect with impactful resources that will change their lives. That is why I'm excited to help SCS engage our communities about building a stronger relationship with God through education. With 13 years of marketing experience in various industries and organizations including start-ups and small businesses, higher learning institutions, and corporate health care, I have gained a deep appreciation for the valuable contributions of all team members. I look forward to bringing that same collaborative spirit to my role at SCS.
Outside the office, I'm committed to learning and self-improvement. I enjoy studying personal finance and investments and love to watch YouTube videos about carpentry, structure building, and impact innovation. I also love to study and practice wilderness survival and enjoy playing beach volleyball. I am quite a music buff and love to challenge myself by naming songs based on the first few notes...especially those in the “Indie Folk” genre.
My educational background was focused on Visual Communications and Engineering Design, Business Marketing, and Graphic and Web Design.
Juanita Hernandez Guerrero - Preschool/Early Learning Teacher
I am excited to join this journey in bringing education and Christ’s love to our children and families in our school. I am first and foremost, a child of God and believe in having a personal relationship with my Lord and Savior. I studied Early Childhood Education at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I have worked with children and families for over 16 years in various programs. When my older children where in school, I began working as a Reading Tutor and Early Language Learner Teacher for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District in Fairbanks, Alaska. I then moved on to work in the Child and Youth Development Programs on Fort Wainwright, Alaska, where I began my work with preschoolers. When I was given the opportunity, I joined the Head Start Program where I worked for many years. I continued my work with this program when I moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Recently, I was working with Bright Horizons Kirkland as a Pre-K Lead Teacher. I hope to bring all my knowledge and love to each and every child in our community.
In my personal life, I am wife to Jason Guerrero, mother to 4 children, and grandmother to 5 beautiful grandchildren. I am also a military mom to my oldest son (US Army). My family moved to Seattle, Washington 2 years ago. We love the Pacific Northwest. I am a certified Zumba Instructor and a Black Belt in Taekwondo. I love the outdoors and I love to read. I look forward to meeting everyone and getting to grow with everyone in our work with children. I am a firm believer that working with children is my God ordained gift. God bless.
April Cole – Preschool Assistant Teacher
My name is April Cole. I am so excited to be a new Preschool Assistant Teacher here at Shoreline Christian School. I am extremely blessed to be given the opportunity to be a part of your child’s life via preschool. I believe a positive and loving preschool experience is so very important as a solid steppingstone for future education of your child. I cannot wait to meet and get to know each and every one of my new students.
I grew up in Montana. I started competitive alpine ski racing when I was 8 years old and continued through college graduation. I am a mountain girl and feel most at home when I am in the middle of a forest or on the top of a mountain ready to drop in and ski down. Being in God’s creation is my passion. My best friend here on earth is my husband Kimo. God blessed us with two boys, Keala (18) and Makana (13). Makana is currently a student here at SCS. I have been a stay at home mom for 19 years. Through that time, I homeschooled for eight of those years. My homeschooling experience made me realize how important recognizing a child’s learning style is to successfully keep a child engaged and excited about learning. I hope to keep that realization and contribute in helping each child embrace how they learn and how to use their strengths to become successful in their own way.
Joy Tjoelker - Elementary Music
I've been involved with music before I was even born: both my parents are musicians and loved to sing. That must be why I sang constantly as a child and still do. I've taught private piano for 39 years, am in my 45th year as a church musician and taught elementary music 9 years. Teaching is a part of my rhythm. Music is all around us: in the drip of water, the bounce of a ball, in the voice of creation and the Creator. God has filled our world with music. My job is to inspire our children to listen to this music, to be a part of it and to compose their own tunes. This year will be full of joy-filled music.
Beth Thompson - Secondary English
With over 16 years of in classroom experience, Beth brings a unique perspective of both a teacher and parent educator. She first fell in love with teaching at Santa Clara University where she received her undergraduate BA in history and education. Continuing to follow her passion for the classroom, she received a master of arts degree in education and teaching credential from Stanford University. After several years of teaching through a variety of subjects including History, English and Bible at the high school level, Beth decided to pursue her doctorate in Educational Psychology at the University of Washington. While at the UW, Beth assisted in publishing research studies on how children learn to read, absorb language and create long-term memory retention. She also specialized in curriculum development. After her time at the UW, Beth has been teaching students of all ages, from elementary to high school. The quest for beauty and truth that guides Christian education speaks deeply to her heart as a lover of Jesus and as an educator. It is her great joy to engage with students at SCS, learning and seeking the gospel in the midst of academia.
Beth is looking forward to joining to SCS as a teacher, and also as a parent. She has four children who will be joining the community in grades 6th, 3rd, 2nd, and PreK.
