New Gym Floor!

For four weeks in April Mr. B held his PE classes outdoors. No, it’s not part of a new outdoor curriculum. Actually, it was because we were given an opportunity to completely refurbish the gym floor. Since the gym was built back in the late ‘70s, the gym has been closed for a week once or twice a year for a gentle refinish. This year, thanks to a generous donation, we were able to accomplish a complete overhaul.

A Shoreline Christian Kind of Day

I knew over a month ago that this was going to be a long Saturday. The day started with a Board meeting focused on the 2015-16 school year’s budget, the afternoon would be filled with supervising three basketball games, and the evening featured a party for a member of my school family. It was going to be a long, Shoreline Christian kind of day.

Arms Around You With Hope and Love

On Saturday morning, March 22, a mudslide hit the small town of Oso, Washington. The landslide destroyed homes, covered the highway, and blocked the north fork of the Stillaguamish River, causing flood warnings east as the river backed up, and west as they feared the mud and debris might suddenly break loose. But even more devastating was the loss of family, friends, and loved ones. As the earth settled, the state leapt into action; no one more than Darrington, the small town just east of Oso on state highway 530.

From Player to Coach: Junior High Girls' Basketball Season in Review

I still remember the first day of basketball practice: standing outside, talking myself into entering the gym; convincing myself that I was not coming down with a fatal stomach virus; and mostly, trying not to show how completely inept I was feeling. I still have vivid memories of the insecurities I felt the evening of my very first basketball practice when I was in 5th grade here at Shoreline Christian. And truth be told, it wasn't too different the evening of my first basketball practice as a coach when our junior high girls' basketball season started this past January.
