Second Grade – Paper Crowns

“You will be a crown of splendor in the Lord’s hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God.” Isaiah 62:3

This is the verse written upon the paper crowns that the second graders creatively decorated. Our second grade class has been learning about the ancient kings of Israel and Judah. They observed in Scripture how God blessed the land and people when their kings and queens served Him alone and did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.

To conclude their study on the kings of old, they learned of Josiah, who became king of Judah at the mere age of 8; the same age most of these students are or soon will be. Together they marveled at how Josiah, even at his young age, had the wisdom to listen to his elders and be instructed in the Way of the True King; how he possessed the courage to turn away from sin and follow God wholeheartedly.

Second graders discussed how they may not be kings and queens of earthly nations, but they do belong to the family of the True King. Their paper crowns serve as a reminder that as God’s children they are representatives of the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth. 👑
